Porachunki to serial oparty na prawdziwych wydarzeniach walki gangów w Melbourne. Akcja serialu rozgrywa się w Australii, w 1976 roku. Przez ponad dekadę przestępcze środowisko w Melbourne było zdominowane przez "ekipę Carltona"  Kiedy jednak na rynku pojawiła się amfetamina -- nowy narkotyk przynoszący ogromne zyski, w środowisku zawrzało. Głównymi producentami i dostawcami byli Tony Mokbel i Carl Williams. Szybko dorobili się dużych pieniędzy, a wraz z bogactwem pojawiła się żądza władzy.
