W tajnym rządowym laboratorium Genome X przeprowadzano doświadczenia na ludziach, modyfikując ich DNA. W wyniku eksperymentów powstali mutanci o zdolnościach tele-empatycznych. Potrafią ciskać ładunkami elektrycznymi na odległość i przenikać ściany. Były naukowiec Genome X, Adam, utworzył organizację zwaną Mutant X. Chce ratować i pomagać dzieciom zwanym Genome X. Szef pierwotnego ośrodka, Eckhart, pragnie je zlikwidować twierdząc, że stanowią zagrożenie dla społeczeństwa. Utworzył tajną agencję ochrony, GSA. Porywa, poddaje bolesnym testom, bądź zabija niepokornych mutantów, których niegdyś wypuszczał na świat.
